Pre-Arrival Guest Guide

CABIN RULES

  • No animals allowed.

  • No outdoor solid fuel fires.

  • No smoking or vaping anything anywhere on the property.

  • Quiet hours are from 9 pm–7 am.

  • We have exterior cameras installed that continuously record movement and sound. Tampering with these cameras will result in the immediate cancellation of your reservation without a refund.

  • No amplified music outdoors. Noise travels in the woods, and we do our best to keep our voices low when enjoying the outdoors at night.

  • Maximum occupancy: 6 guests.

  • No parties, events, or additional guests.

  • Drive slowly throughout our neighborhood.

  • Do not feed the wildlife or leave any food outdoors unattended. We have wildcats and bears who pass through our property. Should you encounter any wildlife you need to scare off, an air horn is located in one of the kitchen island drawers.

  • Do not disturb any tree trunks, plants, mushrooms, slugs, or other critters on our property. The Sonoma Coast is a protected area, and we respect all living things on our land.

  • Do not leave any outside lights on overnight. Light pollution disrupts the natural patterns of wildlife and obscures the stars in the night sky.

BEFORE YOUR TRIP

  • Check-in is after 3:00 pm. A unique, 4-digit access code will be provided to you on the morning of your arrival for keyless entry. This code will only work from 3:00 pm on your day of arrival to 11:00 am on your day of departure. We highly recommend arriving during daylight hours, as it's easy to get lost.

  • Packing comfy layers is also highly recommended, as the weather in our area can change frequently and unexpectedly. Don’t forget your favorite cozy slippers or warm house socks and your hiking or adventure-appropriate apparel (i.e., water shoes, rash guards, swimsuits, etc).

  • Save a map of the location with readable directions, and save or print this guide, which contains important information.

  • Fill up your gas tank or power up well. Depending on your route, your last chance to get gas will be either in town in Jenner (if you’re coming from the south) or Gualala (if you’re coming from the north). These are also great places to check that you have all other information handy, such as directions.

  • Prepare for curvy, narrow roads with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. If you are prone to motion sickness, bring any medication or remedies that help you. Restrooms are scarce, so plan accordingly.

  • Remember, we are in a remote area; the closest full grocery store is 25 miles north in the town of Gualala. For most basic items, Fort Ross Store & Deli, (707) 847-3414, is about 2 miles south of the cabin on CA-1, and Ocean Cove Store, (707) 847-3422, is about 3 miles north of the cabin, also on CA-1. We recommend you do your grocery shopping (with a cooler if possible) and plan your meals before arrival.

  • Set your phone to enable WiFi calling, and keep our WiFi login where you can easily find it. You can access our WiFi from the front porch, so if you need to reach out upon arrival, please connect to our network and give us a call. Cellular service in the area is generally not available.

DIRECTIONS FROM THE SOUTH

- Take CA-1 N and exit/turn right onto Meyers Grade Road

- You will come to a stop sign and see a fire station on your right. Turn left here onto Timber Cove Road

- In 1 mile, turn right onto Ruoff Road (the street signs in the area are wooden with white letters and blend in well with the environment, so drive slowly and track your odometer)

- In about 350 feet, turn right onto Gordon Court

- The cabin is the 2nd driveway on your left, 22087 Gordon Court

DIRECTIONS FROM THE NORTH

- Take CA-1 S and exit/turn left onto Timber Cove Road

- In about 1 mile, turn left onto Ruoff Road (the street signs in the area are wooden with white letters and blend in well with the environment so drive slowly and track your odometer)

- The cabin is the 2nd driveway on your left, 22087 Gordon Court

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Is the cabin safe for small children?

Our cabin is not childproof, and we are not liable for any injuries caused during your stay. A creek runs along the back of the property with a very steep bank and potential fall. This area is not fenced or railed. There are no fences anywhere on the property. Young children must be supervised at all times.

Is the cabin accessible to guests with disabilities or limited mobility?

There are 3 steps in the front and 5 steps in the rear to get inside the house. There are also 4 steps in the garage. Once inside the main house, the floors are all level. Our driveway and the entire property around the house are made of gravel and/or earth. There is no pavement or hardscaping.

Can we build an outdoor bonfire?

No. Due to extreme fire danger, OUTDOOR SOLID FUEL FIRES ARE PROHIBITED (wood, charcoal, etc.) Also, no open-flame candles are allowed indoors or outdoors.

Can we use the outdoor fire pit?

Yes. The fire pit uses propane gas as fuel (not solid fuels). Please do not throw or burn anything in the pit, like sticks, leaves, paper, etc. This is a fire hazard and is banned by Sonoma County. The fire pit user manual is on the kitchen counter.

Can we use the wood-burning stove?

Yes. The wood-burning stove is the best and fastest way to keep the house nice and warm during the cooler months. We can send you a video on how to get that fire going on your first try if you need it.

  • If you have small children with you, we do not recommend using it.

  • Never leave the wood-burning stove door open and unattended; the stove and doors get very hot. Please always use the leather gloves provided.

  • Please do not burn any wood found on the property, as it can damage the stove.

What do we do in the case of an emergency?

Always attempt to dial 9-1-1. Included in the house manual available to you on arrival and at this link, is an informational resource for local emergencies. The Timber Cove Fire Department is approximately 1 mile from the cabin. Timber Cove Resort (21780 Coast Hwy #1, Jenner) often functions as a community center when there are natural disasters, so keep their address handy. The closest medical clinic to us is Redwood Coast Medical Services in Gualala. Please check their website for updated location, hours, and contact phone number. Serious emergencies will require being air-lifted to Santa Rosa Hospital.

What happens if we lose power, gas, water, or internet service?

These instances are rare, but they do happen. Because we are remote, we are usually not able to provide urgent attention or repairs. Instead, we maintain excellent communication with guests and provide as much information and support as possible.

Should the internet go out during your stay, we have games and puzzles in the hallway closet. We also have a great collection of movies on DVD in the drawers under the living room TV. Timber Cove Resort (21780 Coast Hwy #1, Jenner), about 1 mile from the cabin, offers free WiFi if you absolutely must have access during an outage. Attempt to call them first to ensure that they are not also affected by the outage. Should the power, gas, or water go out during your stay, you will be advised on where to go if evacuations are in order or what other options you may have in that moment.

How do I treat a septic system?

To ensure the comfort of your stay and the natural, functional balance of the system, please do not put oils/fats, coffee grounds, or chemicals down the kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room sinks, or anything other than toilet paper and human waste in the toilets. Coffee grounds should be disposed of in the compost container on the counter, and oils and grease from cooking should be disposed of in the mason jar or with grease bags, both located under the kitchen sink.
